Termination of the employment relationship

An employment relationship can be terminated for various reasons or in various ways. It ends, for example, due to retirement, as part of a cancellation or a termination agreement. Fixed-term employment relationships end on the agreed date.

Notice of termination

Ordinary notice of termination must be submitted by employees to the HR department in due time. The respective employment contract specifies which notice period applies in accordance with the TV-L. This is based on § 30 TV-L or § 34 TV-L.

Termination agreement

A termination agreement can be concluded by mutual agreement between employees and Paderborn University. The regulation under collective bargaining law is set out in § 33 TV-L.

The application for a termination agreement must be submitted to the Human Resources Department - Unit 4.2 through official channels. The line manager must also give their consent.

Pension

The retirement age for the standard old-age pension (standard retirement age) will be gradually increased from 65 to 67 between 2012 and 2029.
Starting with those born in 1947, the increase will initially take place in one-month steps from 2012 and in two-month steps from 2024, so that the standard retirement age of 67 will then apply to insured persons born in 1964 or later.

Please note that other types of old-age pensions are also possible. Your pension insurance company will advise you on the types of pension and the requirements for receiving them.

Information on the amount of your pension entitlements from the statutory pension insurance scheme can only be provided by the statutory pension insurance provider.

As soon as you receive your pension notification, please forward it to your HR officer with the specific date of departure.

Please note:

Upon termination of employment, please note that, in consultation with your supervisor, you must ensure that your holiday entitlements are compensated until you leave and that you are also obliged to return all documents and items in your possession that are the property of Paderborn University by the last working day at the latest. Please also delete any accounts you may have created and used for work purposes, both with internal and external providers.

In order to maintain your entitlement to unemployment benefit, you are also obliged to register immediately with the employment agency as a job seeker and actively look for work.

If you require a certificate of employment in accordance with Section 312 of the Third Book of the German Social Code (SGB III) for the Federal Employment Agency in order to apply for unemployment benefit, please inform your responsible HR officer . In this case, the HR department will inform the LBV NRW, which in turn will send the necessary data electronically to the Federal Employment Agency. The required certificate of employment will be issued by the Federal Employment Agency and then sent to your private address.
