Chip-scale microwave photonic transmission and processing module for RoF receiver link

Overview

The overall goal of the proposed project is to investigate the novel microwave photonic transmission and processing (MWPTP) module of the RoF receiver link, which connects the remote radio head (RRH) and baseband unit (BBU). The proposed MWPTP module based RoF link shall outperform the conventional links currently used in the wireless communication networks in terms of the reconfigurability and the operating frequency range. In this project, it is planned to

investigate and model different non-idealities degrading the link performance, and validate the findings with the experiments. For the experimental validation, the main focus will be on the realization of the electronic-photonic integrated circuit (EPIC) with the critical link components, on the silicon photonic platform, a 45nm SOI CMOS technology from GlobalFoundries
